8. Pain as a Teacher
The Desire to Exist Supersedes the Desire for Pleasure

Eight signifies the relationship with materiality, and as consequence the relationship with physical senses. As the understanding of relationship was born within 5. Ego Formation, to then birth the relationship with tension (#6) leading into the relationship with harmony (#7), this understanding now extends into the reality outside of the self.
Through the recognition of tension existing as a spectrum, an internal feedback comes to discern a range within this spectrum to be harmony as self-defined. In a sense, this is the origins of intuition on a subtle level: “continuing this behavior has a limit to its pleasure/enjoyment; beyond this, it begins to extend into discomfort, perceived to be pressure/pain.” Not understanding anything but this singular expression (the seed germinating within itself), the behavior continues as the pressure builds- until the point of transformation and release.
This pressure was building to reveal a duality within the nature: the head, rising against the pressures of Natural Law; and the tail, descending in submission to the pressures of Natural Law. At first, the seed was within itself yet was assuming to be all of existence; as a biologically-induced positive reinforcement, this seed found pleasure through the consumption of all of the raw materials/potential within itself to then take a form. This form was not consciously desired; the continuation of pleasure was desired.
Expectation led to disappointment, and the new sense of pressure birthed a new expression: extension of extremities, the breaking free of what was the means of maintaining this seed’s security- but was only recognized by the seed to be imprisonment due to its lack of perspective. In contrast to the entitled enrichment granted as birthright, being the only thing the seed had ever known, this pressure- paired with a cessation of entitled enrichment- was innocently perceived to be a moment of existentialism. In this, the seed came into relationship with itself: bound by biological processes written within gene sequence, influenced by free-will and the desire to exist superseding the desire for pleasure.
